Ali and the Ball

What would we do if our only knitting needles were taken away? What steps would we take to help a loved one get her knitting needles back? Sounds kind of silly to us, since whoever is reading this, probably has a couple dozen sets of needles. But I recently watched a short film about this very thing, and I thought I would pass this little bittersweet movie along to you. Maybe it will help us appreciate the things that we take for granted everyday - like our knitting. For us, it whiles the time away, between work and parenthood. For Ali's mom, it is the one thing that keeps her sanity alive in a refugee camp. The Movie is called "Ali and the Ball"

Ali and the Ball

8-year-old Ali lives in a refugee detention centre with his mother and little sister Fatima. When his mother's precious knitting needles are confiscated, Ali is forced to take action. Desperate to save his family, he hatches a plan using a ball and the help of a girl on the other side of the razor-wire fence.

At only 15 minutes, it's amazing how such an important statement can be conveyed in such a short amount of time. I found this movie at Bresnan On-Demand, on my television. It's one of the free movies, found in the foreign film festival area. I hope you enjoy it!
