Knitters think ahead. It’s one of our best qualities. We have to knit felted slippers in August, Christmas gifts in September, and the latest, hippest cowl before the first snow!
As I sprint toward finishing my husband’s socks (seriously, that second gray sock is going to be the death of me), my hands are itching to get started on cotton projects. Ok, maybe I took a small break from the eternal gray sock to make a couple of washcloths with the fun thick/thin Nature Cotton, but now I’m serious.
As I’ve stocked the cotton shelves this week, I’ve had a couple of questions about what to knit with this fabulous fiber. Here are a few ideas to get you ready for spring and summer:
1. You learned to make one in Beginning Knitting (you HAVE taken this class from our amazing Becky, haven’t you?) The cotton washcloth is a great staple in your kitchen and the cutest gift you ever did see! Put a couple in a colander like this with some of Mrs. Myers soaps and you're set.

2. Last spring I used Cabin Fever Cotton Tweed to make my youngest a sundress. Guess what? You can run in and pick up the pattern and your favorite color yarn today! She thought it was the best.
3. Is there a baby in a friend’s future? You can bless a new sleep-deprived mama with a very washable baby blanket, hat or sweater.

4. What about a cotton bag? There are so many great ideas on www.ravelry.com. I think I may need a cute new bag for the Farmer’s Market this summer.
5. Don’t forget the chilly mornings and evenings during spring – let’s change out those wool scarves for lightweight shall we?
6. If you need even more inspiration, the new spring issues of Vogue Knitting and Interweave Knits are ready and waiting!
What are you making with cotton? Be sure to post a picture of the finished product on our facebook page!
